Why the 7 Layer Scale?

Our complex measuring system is as unforgiving as it is subjective. Often times a film has outstanding qualities, yet remains unenjoyable. Conversely, a movie may be fundamentally lacking, but has a certain lovable feel to it. The 7 Layer Scale aims to credit each film on its fundamental components while still factoring the comprehensive enjoyment the viewer may receive. Let me explain this notion in practice. Rawson Marshall Thurber directed an action movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Ryan Reynolds. However poor the plot, lack luster the characters, and meaningless the theme, the film will still carry a degree of enjoyability from the factors outside of the 6 binary scoring categories. That is why we multiply each raw score by the critical opinion score. Hence, our scale accounts for the most important components, while emphasizing just how the movie lasts its impression.
